Cardiff Law School Law Clinic – Law in the Real World

We are committed to extending extracurricular opportunities to our students, helping to enhance their CVs in a competitive graduate job market. We work in partnership with lawyers, charities and voluntary organisations to give students the opportunity to practise and extend their skills.

Our two most established schemes are our Innocence Project and NHS Continuing Healthcare Scheme. Both of these have won prestigious national awards and help by assisting members of the community and vulnerable groups with matters for which there is in reality no legal aid.

To find out more, email us on probono@cardiff.ac.uk or contact the Law Clinic Staff

Law in Healthcare

Under our NHS Continuing Healthcare scheme, we address the issue of NHS Continuing Health Care (NHSCHC) funding, an increasing problem nationwide which affects a vulnerable section of the community.

In association with Hugh James.

Law in Justice

Through the Cardiff Law School Innocence Project, students work, under the supervision of practising solicitors and barristers, on cases of long-term prisoners maintaining their innocence of serious crimes.

Cardiff Case Watch

Follow our six pro bono student cases as they progress through the Criminal Cases Review Commission.

Law in Sport

Working in partnership with the Welsh Rugby Union, our students provide a free legal advice service to Welsh rugby clubs, in English or in Welsh. The Scheme is supported by the law firm Hugh James, and by Civitas barristers’ chambers.

Law in Court

The Personal Support Unit, a national charity, trains students to assist litigants in person at the Civil Justice Centre in Cardiff. It provides free, confidential, independent, nonlegal support to clients, to help them through the court process.

Law in Disabled Children’s Rights – Cerebra Legal Entitlements Research Project

This project in conjunction with international children’s charity Cerebra and assisted by practising solicitors, enables students to research the law relating to disabled children and to provide advice relating to disputes over their health and social care entitlements.
